We have established a high productivity flowline to capture data for the Utilities - telecommunications, gas, water and electricity.

This job is often viewed as a low value line-following exercise suitable for subcontracting to "lands far away".  It is our experience, however, that many Utility companies have had their fingers burnt by this approach!

In practice, many utility plans bear only an approximate relationship to geo-registered mapping and that both the spatial data and the attribute data is associated with a variety of heuristic rules which are not even recorded on paper.

Our practice is to work closely with the Utility concerned to capture these unwritten rules and to create high-integrity databases which overcome the reliance on local specialists who normally interpret what the plans say for less experienced colleagues.
