Climate |
Located half way between the Equator and the North Pole, Romania enjoys a temperate-continental climate with hot, sunny summers with frequent showers and thunderstorms and cold, cloudy winters with frequent snow and fog. Spring is a quick transition from winter to summer with a lot of sunshine and a moderate temperature, while autumn lasts longer and is the most rainy period of the year.
Temperature varies according to altitude. In the mountains it is usually 5 degrees Celsius colder than on the plains.
Winds usually come from North East and East. Because of this, Transylvania, which is protected by the Carpathian Mountains, is a lot less windy than the rest of Romania.
