Geo Strategies has released a significant addition to the digital map data available for the EU Enlargement countries of Central & Eastern Europe (CEE).

According to Daniela Florea, CEO of Geo Strategies, “We can now offer fully consistent digital datasets for the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia, Romania, Bulgaria, Moldova and Turkey – with Poland to follow shortly”.

The data sets are fully integrated in the sense that the national road data and the street data for major cities are seamless and thus suitable for routing and navigation. For those cities for which we have post-codes and address ranging it is possible to plan a route from a unique address in, for example, Hungary, through to a similar address in Istanbul.

The digital data was originally captured from ex-Russian military mapping but has been extensively updated using satellite imagery, supplemented by an extensive re-survey programme using EGNOS-enhanced GPS technology. This means that the road network has been surveyed and re-positioned in the dataset to better than five metre accuracy.

The road network is superimposed on background mapping ranging from 1:50 000 to 1:200 000 depending on map availability and includes lakes, rivers, land use, hypsography and a 50 metre digital terrain model for each country.

Mrs Florea adds that “This data is suitable for both GIS and LBS use as it is topologically correct – even the river networks are topologically correct(!) – and includes administrative boundaries, fully geo-referenced demographic detail and, in some instances, life-style information”.

The LBS dataset is organised and structured according to the industry standard ISO TC-204-N-34 (GDF) which ensures that it can be used with all advanced technology platforms.

This new product development is part of Geo Strategies’ policy of continuous map and data update so that the company has available the most comprehensive and up-to-date geographical and digital map data for Central and Eastern Europe.
