This digital terrain model (DTM) has been calculated from contour information at 1:200 000 scale, supplemented by spot-height information.  Supplementary contours have been added from 1:50 000 mapping in the flatter areas, also ridge and break lines in the more mountainous areas.

The dataset is available in two versions - the higher quality dataset also includes 3-D strings which tie the contour data to river lines.

The dataset is available at three resolutions - based on a 50 metre grid, on a 100 metre grid and on a 500 metre grid.  The lower resolutions have been separately calculated using Delaunay triangulation as this is considerably more accurate than sub-sampling which is frequently used.  Further technical information is available under Terrain Models.
