The installation consists of 56 high performance, 19 inch colour workstations all of which are connected to a 100 Mbps network.

In addition, we have 30 PCs (mainly 200 MHz, Pentiums), two A0 colour plotters, an A0 ink-jet plotter, a 400 dpi A0 scanner, several laser printers and a variety of text terminals connected to the network via their own NT Server.

We have 42 manual digitising stations, all with A0 or A1 high-precision (cartographic) digitising tables.  In addition there are four semi-automatic (VTRAK) data-capture workstations.

The main map production software is LAMPS from Laser-Scan (the same software as is used by the British OS, the Canadian Centre for Geomatics and other National Mapping Agencies such as DOSLI in both New Zealand and South Africa).  This is supplemented by AutoCAD - which is used for format conversion - and MapInfo for the majority of GIS activities.  We use ERMapper and ERDAS IMAGINE for raster image processing.

Carry out bulk, manual digitising

Edit and update maps from a raster back-drop e.g. from aerial or satellite images

Transform and change ellipsoids

Structure (polygonise) data

Populate attribute databases

Plot the data at up to A0 using a high performance ink-jet plotter (ENCAD, Novajet III)

Output in a variety of formats, and on most media
